HOPES of an hourly service between Worcestershire and London have been shattered, according to Peter Luff.
The mid-Worcestershire MP claimed the Commons' approval of a new cross-London rail link would put paid to improvements on the Cotwold line.
Mr Luff called on MPs to reject the Crossrail project which could cut services between the county and London's Paddington station. But his demands fell on deaf ears as the Commons passed the Crossrail Bill.
He told the Commons: "It is the end of all the dreams that we have in Worcest-ershire along the Cotswold line of improving the service to the level that we ought to have."
Mr Luff said: "The Secretary of State spoke reassuringly about maintaining current service levels. Current service levels between Worcestershire and London are a scandal.
"They do not need to be maintained - they need to be dramatically improved. It is standing room only on most trains.
"There is a market there crying out to be met, to take people off the roads and put them on to the railways," he said.
