IN October 2002, I wrote to this newspaper that politicians are sleepwalking us into an open-ended war. On March 18, 2003, Tony Blair told us: "I have given the order for British forces to take part in military action in Iraq".
He added that vast amounts of chemical and biological poisons such as anthrax, VX nerve agent and mustard gas remained unaccounted for.
Just 14 days later and the score was 27 British service personnel dead in Iraq. To date, the total is 92 who have died in combat, by accident or natural causes. And we are hypocritically told - mainly by those who are unlikely ever to have to put on a uniform, fight, die or suffer any inconvenience - that is our duty to stay in Iraq.
