CHILDREN as young as six and seven have been throwing stones at cars on a busy Worcester road.

The mini-yobs have been aiming at drivers' heads as they go along Newtown Road in Ronkswood, near the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

One man targeted yesterday evening said he only escaped injury because of reinforced glass on his Mercedes S Class.

Tony Markham, of the Blanquettes estate, Barbourne, said: "I noticed a group of three or four kids and as I drove past I saw one of them pick up a stone and aim it at my head.

"Fortunately, the car window was only marked, but it could have been a lot worse.

"At first, I was mad because of the damage, but then I realised I could have had serious injuries or I could have swerved and hurt someone else.

"I got out of the car, but the culprits had gone. I spoke to

some other children, who said it happened all the time."

A spokesman for Worcester police said: "We cannot stress enough that what might seem to be a children's prank could have serious repurcussions.

There is the real possibility that the stone-throwing could distract or injure a driver and lead to an accident. We urge all parents to explain to their children the dangers of this.

Mr Markham said: I blame the parents. These children were under 10, and shouldn't have been outside at night.

It may seem like a minor crime, but where do they stop throwing something off a motorway bridge?
