DROITWICH'S second annual music festival was such a success that organisers are already planning how to make next year's event even bigger and better.

Performers from across the county descended on the town to entertain residents and visitors for free at various venues, including the Lido Park and Droitwich High School between Sunday, July 3, and Friday, July 15.

And the closing Pop Icons Finale at the Chateau Impney - featuring 22-bands from Droitwich High School and middle schools battling it out in a Pop Idol style competition - was so spectacular it attracted more than 700 people.

Richard Brighton, chairman of the music festival committee, said it was a fabulous show and a fantastic end to the festival.

"We had around 50 events over the 13 days and hundreds of people enjoyed the entertainment," he said.

"People are already asking me when next year's event will be taking place so over the next few weeks I will get to work on getting preparations started."

Mr Brighton said some events had been more successful than others and he would be taking that into account when planning what next year's festival would include. But he believes it will still take place in July.

"We like to include the young people and the schools, so this is really the best time for everyone. Whatever happens, we'll ensure it is bigger and better than ever before."
