MEMBERS at the Arden club at Defford raced for the Arden Trophy and 11 boats took to the water, including a couple of trainees.

A hot day with shifty winds saw the race officer set a short course and, after a bad start, Niall Campbell and Jane Smee (Enterprise) clawed their way through the fleet to take first place.

A tactical battle between the Solos of Andrew Potts and Ralph Evans saw the former take second.

Fourth, after another dogfight, were Stuart and Carolyn Steven (Enterprise) with Richard Drinkwater sailing his Enter-prise single-handedly for fifth.

The Solo race saw a win for Evans after Potts was forced to retire.

There was a close race for the Commodores Trophy with Evans again finishing first ahead of Keith Stevens (Comet) and Val Jolly (Topper).

The fourth race was for the Enterprise Trophy and resulted in another convincing win for Campbell and Smee.

Richard Drinkwater was runner-up and Stuart Steven third.

The final race was for the Bert Therlow Series and Campbell and Smee rounded off a productive day with yet another fine victory from Eric Ison's Laser.
