KIND-hearted residents are needed to bring sunshine and light into the lives of those suffering from depression.
The Bromsgrove and Redditch Mental Health Volunteer Scheme (B&RMHVS) is looking for people who can spare an hour or two of their time to help others.
Scheme organiser Pam Durrant explained: "We are looking for "befrienders" for people living with mental health problems in the Redditch area. We don't expect volunteers to give up a lot of their time, just an hour or so to go round the shops or out for coffee. It's not as difficult as some people expect it to be.
"We currently have three middle-aged women who would like friends. All of them just want someone to go round the shops with, or go to the garden centre.
"Depression can be so isolating, yet if they know they have someone coming round to take them out for a coffee it can really brighten their week."
Mrs Durrant also said they have a young man looking for someone to enjoy a round of golf with.
"All of our volunteers say how much satisfaction they get out of doing something for someone else. They often get back just as much as they give," she added.
"Befrienders" are given full training and support with the opportunity to achieve recognised qualifications.
The B&RMHVS is funded by Social Services and the office is based in Windsor Street, Bromsgrove.
