STAINES Boat Club have always been strong supporters of the Evesham Regatta so it was the turn of Evesham crews to repay the favour last weekend at the London club's Amateur Regatta.

The Staines course, while only 500m, was narrow with a deceptive bend, while waves from a constant constant stream of pleasure cruisers were also a new experience for some of the Vale club's crews who, nevertheless, put in some strong performances to return home with six wins.

Colleen Penrose and Chloe Bryan won their trophy of the season in the J13 double scull with a comfortable win over Staines.

Ben and Jon Farrar won easily in a straight J13 final again against the host club but it was an all-Evesham final in the J14 double sculls with Rory Sullivan and Oli Staite having to work their hardest to achieve a win against Danny Sadler and Declan Clarke.

Staite also won the J14 single sculls with an easy win against another home club rower.

The quad of Ben and Jon Farrar, Tom Noble and Jordan Bunyan won the J13 event with plenty of river between them and the Staines crew.

The women's crew of Emma Purfield, Pippa Turner, Sara Howe and Chloe Farrar, meanwhile, competing at Senior IV level beat a crew from Putney Town to book a final date with HSBC Boat Club who they overcame with two lengths to spare.
