DENNIS Hall, a late substitute for Droitwich Spa namesake Richard, had an excellent day at Broadway's 81 Trophy when he walked off with the £300 prize money after victory over B Jones (Ronnies Rockets)from Barbourne BC.
Host club member Hall put together a scratch rink of John Oliver, Dave Cresswell and son Richard to assist the organisers. And, they never looked back after losing the first game in their section and went through to the final by virtue of a better shot difference to Mick Emms (Littleton) and R Webber (Gilt Edge).
The other section went to the wire with four teams vying for top spot with Andrew Walters losing out to Phil Taylor in the last match and Overbury's Bruce Hayward, a previous winner, falling to Derek Palfrey at the last hurdle.
Sponsors Golden Charter in conjunction with Campion & New enjoyed their second year as main sponsors and excellent weather ensured that the 100 bowlers and numerous spectators enjoyed a good day out.
Other backers of the popular event were GSL, BupaCare Homes, Karndean Inter-national, Pershore Bowls Centre, Winter and Co Insurance and Cotswold Mowers.
