A REDDITCH policeman who "exemplifies all that is good about community policing" has been nominated to receive a prestigious award.

North-east sector beat manager Pc Dave Wilkins will be attending West Mercia Constabulary's award ceremony tonight at Hindlip Hall Conference Centre in Worcester.

Redditch councillor Juliet Brunner, who nominated Pc Wilkins, described the officer as an "unsung hero" who dedicated himself to the community and had an excellent rapport with young people.

She said: "Dave exemplifies all that is good about community policing.

"He describes himself as a small cog in a big wheel but those that know him recognise he is an extremely significant cog who seldom takes credit for his achievements and has done so much to improve the lives of others."

Earlier this month the 54- year-old was praised in the House of Commons for his dedication to community policing.

Ms Brunner, who will also be attending the ceremony, said: "Dave thoroughly deserves this acknowledgement and I'm very honoured to represent the community, who hold a debt of gratitude to him."
