All our favourite characters from the 70s kids' TV series return to the screen in this reworking of the Magic Roundabout, featuring the voices of Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue and Ray Winstone and a sprinkling of other stars.

The gang reunites to confront evil wizard Zeebad, who is on a quest to turn the world into a frozen land and rid it of colour and happiness.

Robbie Williams is surprisingly good as the amiable Dougal, whose mischievous nature gets him (and others) into numerous scrapes.

But with such a high-profile A-list voice-over cast - also including Joanna Lumley, Lee Evans and Bill Nighy - you can't help feeling a little cheated at the slow-moving pace and sparse sprinkling of half-hearted gags.

Fans of the 70s show will be bitterly disappointed at attempts to revive the show as it was in its heyday. Weak references to illegal substances appear forced and fail to amuse the adult viewer.

While the animation is smooth and slick, the film fails to cover any new ground and its weak plot will leave viewers ready to scream with boredom. Any child - or adult - who manages to last the whole 78 minutes deserves a medal.
