EVESHAM rower Peter Ford brought back a gold medal from the National Championships after success in the J16 Pairs event.
The Worcester Royal Grammar School pupil teamed up with Tom Clark and the pair rowed a well judged race to claim the title by just one second.
They defeated a strong field led by holders St Leonards School who were winners at the National Schools Regatta.
The win earned the duo a place in the Wales squad for the Home International series in the J18 pairs category on the new Cardiff Bay course.
Rowing against crews two years older on a shorter 1500m course, Ford and Clark performed well to finish third just behind Ireland and England.
