A SPA woman has hit out at the leader of the district council after he wrote her a 'very rude' letter in response to a query about the town's lido.

Sheila Preston, of Charles Dickens Close, said: "I wrote a perfectly polite letter to Councillor Martin Jennings and he responded with a very rude letter."

In the letter, he said: "I have to say that in spite of full information being given on many occasions to not only the town council, but the residents of Droitwich, we note the continued correspondence utilising valuable officer time, which should be used for many more important aspects of the administration of council business."

Mrs Preston said: "I was just querying why there had been no representatives from the council at the recent lido meeting, despite the large proportion of residents who expressed their wish to keep the lido in the parish poll."

She added that she felt the council was merely fobbing off residents with their proposal for a wet play area in place of the lido.

Cllr Jennings also said in his letter that the council had no intention of re-opening the lido when 'we know from past experience that it was never well used'.

In the most recent Save A Lido Today (SALT) newsletter, members said: "The most important thing at the moment is to contact the leader of the council or your district councillor and let them know how you feel about both the proposed 'wet play' area and the proposal."

Cllr Jennings was contacted by The Advertiser, but had not got back to us by the time we went to press.
