A SPA mum is offering to pass on her specialist sugarcraft skills to sugar babes in a new workshop coming to the town. SWEET SENSATION: Cassie Brown with one of her works of sugarcraft art.

Awarding-winning sugarcraft expert Cassie Brown, of Oakleigh Road, has been featured in The Advertiser before for masterminding the creation of Britain's largest sugarcraft sculpture.

It measured a massive six-and-a-half feet tall by four feet wide and narrowly missed out on being included in the Guinness Book of Records.

And now she is planning to run a workshop at The Barns, New Chawson Lane, on Saturday, August 6, between 10.30am-4pm to demonstrate how to create opium poppies and hedgehogs using icing.

Cassie has travelled all over the country demonstrating her skills to sweet-toothed folk and has a City and Guild qualification in sugarcraft, as well as being a member of the British Sugarcraft Guild. But now Cassie says: "My daughter Charlotte is just about to start school so I've had my wings clipped a bit! That's why I want to bring these workshops to Droitwich.

"The first workshop is really just to test the water to see if people are interested in having a course. If there is interest I would like to run one or two workshops a month."

Cassie also writes articles on sugarcraft for the Cakes and Sugarcraft magazine and has had a lifelong dedication to the art. She said: "I first became interested in sugarcraft when I was 13 and I went to a meeting with my auntie. The first flower I made was an orchid and it was awful, but I've improved since then!"

The workshop will cost £20, and people are asked to bring a packed lunch. For a list of materials and to book a place call Cassie on 07778 067192.
