A MOTORIST has hit out at misleading parking signs in the town centre after she was left stranded when her car was locked in a multi-storey.

Tina Hughes, from Wythall, had parked her car in the Churchfields multi-storey while her daughter took part in a concert in Sanders Park, on Sunday, July 3

But although a sign in the pedestrian access stated the car park was locked at 6.30pm, it actually closed two hours earlier.

Tina said: "When we parked the car we checked the sign on the way out and it said 6.30pm, so when we returned at 4.50pm we were shocked to find the car park locked up.

"We phoned the out of hours number on the sign for information, but it was just an answer phone."

Tina said in the end she had to get a taxi home to Wythall and then had to drive back to Bromsgrove in the morning when the car park opened to pick up the car.

"It cost us £15 to get back home and then we had all the inconvenience the following morning of trying to pick the car up.

"Apparently the sign as you drive in states the correct opening times, but the one in the pedestrian walkway is wrong. So surely it must be corrected."

Bromsgrove District Council engineer Patrick Lees said: "Unfortunately this was an oversight on our part and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. We will be writing to the lady in question and we will refund the money she spent on a taxi home."

He said the sign would be changed immediately.
