THE well-known photograph of the Vinegar Express crossing Shrub Hill Road on its way to Pheasant Street will not be much of a mystery to most of your readers, but they may be puzzled by your reference to something called "Henwick Halt". There was no such place. "Henwick" was a manned station until the day of its closure: there never was a "Henwick Halt".

It is worth noting that those responsible for naming the adjacent Medical Centre "Henwick Halt" were not only ignorant, which is pardonable, but obstinate also, in failing to heed advice that they were about to make fools of themselves in giving their centre a nonsensical name.
