BRETFORTON lifted the Jack Grove Memorial Trophy for a second time last Thursday when they overcame Elmley Castle in the final at Ashton.

The annual competition is played in a league format initially with the top four sides progressing to the knockout stage.

Bretforton defeated the host club to book a final date with the Castle who had overcome 2004 winners Exhall and Wixford in their semi-final clash.

Clarke (62) and Heyneke (47) gave Bretforton a flying start that was capitalised on by skipper Jones whose rapid 28 lifted the 20-over score to 163-5 despite Humphries taking 4-38.

Simon and Steve Cooper did equally well after the break but, the former's demise for 43 and the loss of wickets to successive Heyneke deliveries, swung the match in Bretforton's favour.

Wickets continued to tumble with only Corbett offering any real resistance as the reply closed on 145-9 leaving Bretforton to celebrate their victory.
