IT WAS an afternoon for the Powell family to savour but Badsey were unable to force a victory in last Saturday's Worcestershire County League Division Five clash at Ballards Park.

Knighton-on-Teme's last wicket pair couldn't be parted as they fell eight runs short of overhauling the home side's 197-9.

County Under-14 ace Nick Powell recorded his best figures at senior level with 6-21 including four clean bowled and the other two caught by dad Dave and brother Steve.

Earlier, Adam Westmacott (40), George Cowley (43) and John Gisbourne (35no) had helped Badsey finish just three runs short of maximum batting points.

Powell's inspired early spell then reduced Knighton to 28-3 but they recovered and went into the final five overs needing 44 for an unlikely win.

A superb run-out by Tom Miles and a sixth wicket for Powell ended their hopes but Badsey were unable to prise out the last man.

Powell led the club's Under-14 side to the last four of the County Knockout Cup last week with a five-wicket defeat of Halesowen.

The skipper grabbed 3-9 to leave Badsey chasing 93 for victory - a target they achieved with five wickets in hand mainly thanks to 51 from Steven Bosworth.
