DROITWICH put up a fight against Worcester League Division One leader Ombersley but in the end slumped to their seventh defeat of the season on Saturday.

Spa did their best to push the division's pacesetters all the way, but a batting collapse after a strong start gave Ombersley the edge.

Paul Bryan (0) was caught by wicketkeeper Peter Wheeler off Joey Robinson.

Gary Cartwright (50) forged a powerful partnership with Jerome Connor (62).

Cartwright was caught by Neil Shuck and Australian Josh Staines came into bat.

However, Staines struggled for runs, facing 32 balls for six runs, and was dismissed by Slade.

Walsh was dismissed by Calvin Flowers (4-75) who then set about Droitwich's tail end, removing Alex Kolb and Andrew Fletcher.

Michael Rogers (27) did his best to get some late runs by hitting 27 runs off 27 balls, before Duncan Catterall dismissed him as Droitwich ended on 198-10.

Rogers (3-56) proved to be even more effective with the ball, removing Flowers (10), before Goddard had Burden (21) caught by Fletcher.

However, D'Oliveira (58) and Catterall (73) took the game away from Droitwich.

Rogers finally dismissed Catterall, while Martin Woodward removed D'Oliveira, but Robinson (19) and Peter Wheeler (10) guided their side to the 200 mark in the 46th over.

Defeat leaves Droitwich in second from bottom in Division One.

l On Saturday Spa face a testing game away at mid-table Brockhampton.

Walsh will be hoping that Droitwich to obtain a confidence boosting victory, while closest relegation rivals Chaddesley Corbett and Bewdley slip-up.
