PEOPLE in a city parish have been invited to help shape the future of a new community centre.

The St Peter's Community Centre, which is expected to cost between £700,000 and £1m, will be built in Abbotsbury Court. But before plans are set in stone, residents have been asked to attend an open day to discuss the facilities that they would like to see.

Worcester City Councillor Roger Knight urged residents to fill out questionnaires at Saturday's event, at St Peter's Village Hall.

"This is a major investment, probably the biggest St Peter's will ever see," he said.

"It is vital that we know and understand the needs and requirements of the community before we embark on the serious business of planning.

"We must identify now the activities that will take place and ensure we will be able meet the demands that these will place on the new building, both internal and external." He urged residents to take advantage of this opportunity.

"Now is the time for people to make their views known, if they don't or if they put if off, it may well become too late," he added.

Student Rob Clarke, of University College Worcester is carrying out the survey on behalf of the St Peter's Village Hall Association.

"We need to promote awareness of the centre," said the 25-year-old, of Rainbow Hill, Worcester. "The more people who come the better so that we can start raising money."

The event will take place in the Abbotsbury Court Hall between 10am and 4pm.
