TWO sisters from Salford Priors are celebrating their success in the village's Best Kept Garden competition with a toast to their late parents.
Jackie and Julie Malin persuaded their father, Joe, to enter the competition earlier this year after their mother, Catherine, died in February.
"To get him out of himself we suggested he got a few flowers to do some pots and enter the competition and he said "yes, OK".
"We have entered the competition before, and had highly commended and some wins, but he wasn't sure if it was good enough this year.
"Dad died on June 28 and before the judging on July 10 the organisers phoned us to ask if we still wanted to enter, and we decided to do it in memory of mum and dad who were both keen gardeners."
Their efforts have won the family two accolades, Best Patio and overall Best Kept Garden, and their awards will be presented at a ceremony in the autumn.
