CADETS from St John Ambulance in Malvern have won top honours.

They have received Grand Prior Award certificates, which are given to those who attain proficiency in 12 subjects, including first aid, map reading, management skills, care and the history of the Order of St John.

Each cadet also received the Grand Prior Badge, which they will wear on the left sleeve of their uniforms throughout their time in St John Ambulance.

The recipients were Sarah Barson, aged 19, Deborah Bingham, aged 23, who are now both adult members, Helen Legg, aged 16, Samuel Webb, aged 16, Luke Miles, aged 15, Catherine Tizard, aged 15, Angela Webber, aged 15, and Jonathan Winters, aged 15.

Also in the junior section, called Badgers, which is for five to nine year olds, Christopher Somers, aged 10, who has now become a cadet, was awarded a Super Badger certificate after he achieved all nine badges.

Stella Elliot, assistant county commissioner for St John Ambulance in Worcestershire, who presented some of the certificates, said: "It takes several years of hard work and commitment for each cadet to achieve Grand Prior status.

They should all feel very proud of what they have achieved."

The awards were presented on Monday, July 18, at the Methodist Church, Lansdowne Crescent, in Malvern.
