GARY Barnett has revealed that he has no idea what the future holds after being made redundant by Harriers and then linked with an immediate return to Aggborough.

The 42-year-old was axed as assistant manager because of budget cuts last week, only to be touted as a potential full time coach for the club's youth set-up.

Barnett is currently on a week's holiday with his wife and three young girls in Croyde Bay, North Devon, as he takes stock of his career.

But if the possible youth coaching role at Harriers comes to nothing, Barnett may have to consider a future outside of the game.

He said: "I think your initial reaction when things like this happen is disappointment.

"But tough decisions have to be made in football and nothing surprises people in football.

"You never know what's round the corner, sometimes it goes for you, sometimes it goes against you and this time it's gone against me.

"It's going to be very, very difficult. I'm a realist and I know there's hundreds and thousands of coaches in the same situation as Gary Barnett.

"You need to be in the right place at the right time so I don't know exactly what the future holds at the moment."

Barnett admits to being excited about the prospect of returning to Aggborough to head the youth system -- but has no idea if and when the rumours will become reality.

"It's been mentioned to me about coming back on the youth side of things and it appeals to me because it would be a massive challenge.

"But there's nothing concrete happening with that at the moment."

On the subject of concrete, Barnett has no intentions of returning to the building trade after previously doing labouring work to make ends meet between football jobs.

"I have done a bit of building work, but it's not something I want to go back to," he said.

"Initially it was okay and I was with a good set of lads, it's just not a direction I want to take again."

Despite being told that his services were no longer required last week, Barnett still holds fond memories of his time at Harriers.

"I've had some great times there," he added.

"It's been very tough since I went back there but a lot of people have shown a lot of character and we've all tried to stick in there.

"It's still a nice family club and even though it knows it's limits in terms of fanbase and finances it's still a smashing place to work."
