SCHOOLS have begun to rally behind Operation Covert.

Sutton Park First School in Kidderminster has already raised £120 towards our appeal while children at Franche First School take part in an activities day tomorrow to raise much needed cash.

Youngsters at Sutton Park First paid to wear their own clothes or their Cub or Beaver uniform last Thursday.

Pupils took part in music workshops and listened intently to parents who help run district Scout groups during a special assembly.

Beavers mascot, Barney, also put in an appearance, to the delight of pupils at the Greatfield Road school.

School secretary, Elizabeth Hitchins, said: "The children had a whale of a time. They were really enthusiastic and the older children gave talks to the rest of their class on what life was like in the Scouts.

"There was a lot of enthusiasm from children who do not go to Scouts, who began to realise there was something else besides school."

She added: "The school was happy to help Operation Covert for the simple reason we have a number of children who are affected because they are in Beavers and Cubs.

"Some of our staff are also involved in the Scouts."

Pupils will take part in a "Discovery Day" at Franche First School, in Chestnut Grove, Kidderminster, to raise cash for the appeal.

Headteacher, Val Weddell-Hall, said: "For many years, Franche First pupils enjoyed their weekend camp at Rhydd Covert."
