AN environmentally friendly garden cared for by pupils at Wribbenhall Middle School was awarded a top prize in the Bewdley in Bloom contest.

The school received The Hilda Peers Memorial Bowl for inspiring the gardeners of the future, for the knowledge and enthusiasm of the pupils, as well as encouraging wildlife.

As well as the plants displayed, there was a wormery and wildlife area and the whole site was environmentally friendly.

Headteacher, Janet Bickerton, said: "We are very pleased. It is a wonderful achievement for the children and the staff who have enabled them to be environmentally friendly."

"I think that it is important that a school is in the community and I think our site should be a joy to look at. If we are encouraging children to be gardeners and care about the environment, then that is a bonus," she added.

Also competing in the schools' category was Wribbenhall First School, which was second and First Wribbenhall Guides, who came third.
