A KIDDERMINSTER councillor fears First Bus company could be considering pulling out of the bus station on the Weavers Wharf development.

Fran Oborski said she had heard First Bus had made it known it wanted to stop using the station and go back to using the bus stops in Exchange Street.

She explained: "The Weavers Wharf development would not have been laid out in the way it was if it was not for First Bus's insistence on having a bus station there in the first place.

"Bus stops, shelters, drivers' rest room, related road layout and the bridge probably ran up a bill getting on for £1million for some of the other partners in the development."

The district and county councillor added: "We don't want to see buses crowded back in alongside the town hall.

"I think councillors would have preferred to see greatly improved taxi rank provision."

She added: "I think it is a completely irresponsible decision and it has been taken without any discussion with the county council and district council."

Spokesman for First Bus, David Maciejewski, said there were service changes planned for September but he could not comment at this stage on whether or not the company was planning to pull out of the station.
