A KIDDERMINSTER teenager is one step nearer her dream of becoming a model after winning a contest in Birmingham.

Lorraine Legister, of Kendlewood Road, was chosen from 200 people at the One Stop shopping centre in Birmingham.

The 17-year-old, who is studying A-levels in psychology, business studies and art at Wolverley High School, won £100 and the opportunity to do some catalogue modelling.

She decided to enter the Modelsearch competition after her mother heard it advertised on the radio station, Galaxy 102.2 FM, which was sponsoring the event.

Lorraine said: "It is something I have always wanted to do and it is something I would like to do in the future so I went for it.

"I am very happy about it," she added.

The contest, which was open to people aged four and over, was run in two stages and the first heats were held earlier this month.

A final was held a week later, when the remaining 10 girls in the 16 and over category were whittled down to six before Lorraine was crowned the eventual winner.

She said: "I was really nervous at first as I had to walk down a catwalk.

"They judged us on different things like style and confidence and I got pretty high marks. The whole experience was really good and I enjoyed it.

Her mother, Wendy, said she was proud of her daughter, adding: "They have said she will be in a catalogue at Christmas.

"She is hoping to get more work and a modelling contract if she can. They are also going to put their faces on a poster board in Perry Barr."
