PEDESTRIAN crossings could be installed in Bewdley after parents were asked to share their safety concerns.

Worcestershire County Council is proposing crossings on both Cleobury Road and Wyre Hill, as well as widening existing footpaths along Cleobury road and realigning the junction with Yew Tree Lane.

Results of the survey, carried out at St Anne's First School as part of the Safer Routes to School initiative, showed parents were worried about the sites because of high traffic volumes and speeds.

The council's proposals were displayed at the school earlier this month and representatives from Worcestershire Highways were on hand to answer questions about the plans.

Comments made by visitors and views that were gathered through a letter drop will be analysed by the council.

Retiring headteacher, Geoff Bayley, said: "We have been trying to get the routes to school safer for five or six years. I was absolutely overjoyed that the scheme was going ahead.

"We were pleased that we could support something that would make the children safer on the route to school."

QUestionnaires about the scheme are available from the library in Load Street, Bewdley.
