CONTESTANTS are now preparing produce for the centenary year annual summer show to be held in the Village Hall on August 6. All applications must be completed and received by Monday at 8pm. Entry forms can be obtained from the show secretary, Robin Saunders, 5 Sandhampton, Astley, or Michael Ecob and are charged at 20p per adult entry, with children's classes free.
Exhibits are to be staged between 11am and 1pm. Classes for vegetables/salads/herbs and fruit are also included within the programme as are homemade cakes, biscuits, scones etc. There is a children's section to include a papier mache animal, a vase of flowers raised from seed and a gingerbread man.
The Open Gardens event held on June 12 was successful and raised £1,847 for Open Gardens which makes a total of nearly £10,000 raised in the last five years for the National Garden Scheme. The centenary summer ball held on June 25 with the Phoenix Big Band was a successful evening and raised £552 for Kemp Hospice.
