THE importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle was promoted during a special event held in Cookley.

A Body in Mind roadshow was held at the doctors' surgery in Lea Lane earlier this month with the aim of showing people how to lead healthy lives.

Visitors were given the chance to get information and advice about diet, family health and exercise and visitors were also taught to relax the mind and the body to help relieve the stress of everyday life.

During the morning, a healthy eating class was held at Cookley Sebright First School and children were encouraged to get involved by trying food which included pumpkin seeds and dried fruit.

That was followed by an exercise class, which was taught by a cardiac rehabilitation nurse from Kidderminster Hospital.

Relaxation techniques were the focus of the afternoon and visitors to the surgery were taught how to combat stress.

Practice manager, Lisa Benton, said: "We wanted to take healthy living out to the people rather than waiting for them to come to the surgery. It went very well and we had a very positive response from the public.

"It is something we will do next year as well," she added.
