YOUR Flashback picture of George Street, Worcester (Saturday, August 6) seems to me identical with one which you published many years ago and raised similar questions.
If it is the same picture an examination of the print will show a little more detail of distant background. The tower of St Swithun's church is clearly identifiable but it will be seen it has no pinnacles.
In the winter of 1946-47 heavy winds blew down one of the pinnacles fatally injuring a young airman on his de-mob leave. As a safety measure, the other three pinnacles were removed and restoration did not come about for many years.
The absence of pinnacles in the picture precludes the possibility of the bunting in any way celebrating the end of the war. It is far more likely to be the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953.
