AS rain decimated the local cricket programme, Worcester came out on top against St Georges in a 25 over game.

Worcester won the toss and asked St Georges to bat, they got off to a good start putting on 78 for the first wicket. However the introduction of leg spinner James Wagstaff slowed the run rate down and started the fall of wickets, as he took 4-32 off 8 overs and was ably supported by captain Dan McKay (3-32). St Georges were held to 127-8 off 25 overs.

Worcester's batsmen got off to a nervy start and Mason went with the score at only 17.

Mwayenga, Worcester's overseas player, looked in good touch but with wickets falling regularly at the over end Worcester were 98-5 when Mwayenga fell for an excellent 46.

Still needing 30 runs off seven overs, the home team lost a further two wickets but Dave Francis and Liam Weston got Worcester home with five balls to spare, Weston finishing 10 not out.

The result gave Worcester a much-needed 20 points, taking them out of the relegation zone for the first time this season.

In the Birmingham League Division One, the only game played was between Shrewsbury and Bromsgrove.

Restricted to 26 overs, Bromsgrove finished on 107-9. Shrewsbury lost four wickets in achieving an important win.

Kidderminster Victoria now trail new leaders Shrewsbury by 21 points and second-placed Smethwick by 17. They will need to secure plenty of points when they visit Harborne next Saturday (12.30pm).
