THREE first-half goals were enough to inflict defeat on Evesham in their first game in the Southern Premier League.

Dave Busst's newly-promoted side went down 3-0 at Tiverton as Friend, Yetton and Winter struck in the opening 45 minutes.

The match attracted the division's biggest crowd -- an attendance of 584.

Bromsgrove Rovers got their season off to the perfect start with a 2-0 win over the division's new boys Beaconsfield.

Goals in the last eight minutes from Scott Hadland and Kevin Banner secured the three points for Jimmy Mullen's side at the Victoria Ground.

Dean Curtis came closest to breaking the deadlock for the hosts in the first-half but his header came back off the crossbar.

In the 82nd minute, Rovers went ahead when Banner's cross was met at close range by Hadland.

And then Banner got himself on the scoresheet with two minutes to go.

Stourport Swifts started off the season with a 2-1 defeat at Marlow.

The result was particularly disappointing, as they had taken the lead on nine minutes when Danny Mason and Richard Burgess combined to set up Duncan Willetts.

Burgess nearly doubled their lead before Jeff Brown smashed home the equalising goal in the 20th minute.

And the home side claimed the win with just a minute remaining as Steve Croxford arrived at the far post and tucked the ball home.
