ORGANISERS behind a Malvern musical extravaganza aimed at increasing support for a new skate-park in the town are busy making final preparations for the big day.

TG's Project is holding the Party in the Park event on Saturday, September 10 in Priory Park, in conjunction with Malvern Hills Young People's Council.

The project aims to create an indoor skate-park, youth caf and gig venue in memory of Tim Greenwood, who died of leukaemia in 2003.

The event will see several musicians perform from midday and Malvern recording artist Ben Okafor has already been confirmed as the headlining act.

West Malvern resident, virtuoso violinist Nigel Kennedy and local bands including Clearwater and Backwash have also been invited to attend.

Organisers are in the process of confirming the remaining acts, with the final line-up to be announced shortly.

Project leader Rachel Smith said the emphasis was more on increasing awareness of the skate-park project rather than raising cash for it.

"It's not really a fund-raising day, it's really to provide information on the project and the Malvern Hills Young People's Council, as well as having a great day out."

In addition to the musical performances, there will be attractions for all ages, including bouncy castles, face-painting and workshops covering circus, art and DJ skills.

Local schools, youth groups and the youth centre have been involved in making flags to decorate Church Street in the run-up to the event.

T.G's Project is hoping that local businesses will offer to sponsor the event. Anyone interested in doing so should contact either Anne Cox on 01684 565045, or Jan Bradford on 01684 566736.
