COMMUTERS will have the chance to discuss some of the sweeping changes to Worcester's bus network at four public meetings.

The transformation of the park-and-ride system will see more city buses, increased routes and free travel for over 60s and children - all of which will start from Monday, September 5.

There are also future plans for an underground terminal in Whittington, other park-and-ride sites and a range of 'space-age' flexi-buses and tram-buses to be introduced.

The leaders of Project Express are calling on members of the public to give their opinions on the move during sessions at Worcester Rugby Club on Monday and Tuesday, August 22 and 23.

"Users' views are important and will be taken into account," said county councillor John Smith, who is heading the scheme.

"We're not talking a one-way street. We need input from the very people the plans are designed to benefit most - the travelling public of Worcester and surrounding areas.

"Our priority is to determine precisely what Worcester people want from a local service."

Pre-booking is essential and can be done by calling 01905 768192, or visiting www.worcestershire.gov.uk/project-express.

There is only room for 150 people to attend each meeting and it will be decided on a first-come first-served basis.

The proposals to rejuvenate and overhaul the bus system come after dissatisfaction with public transport and worsening traffic conditions in the city centre.

The idea is geared to encourage more people to take the buses, tackle congestion and recreate 'school summer holiday' traffic conditions all-year round.
