PENELOPE Keith, one of the best-loved actresses and television personalities of the last 30 years, makes a return appearance at Malvern Theatres next week.

Enduringly famous for her roles in the BBC sitcoms The Good Life and To the Manor Born, Penelope Keith takes to the stage in Noel Coward's classic comedy Blithe Spirit.

Coward's own favourite play, Blithe Spirit ran for nearly 2,000 performances when it first opened and was the longest running comedy in British theatre for three decades.

The story tells of Charles Condomine and his wife Ruth.

They hold a sance in order that Charles may gather material for his new novel.

Expecting no more than a little after dinner entertainment, Charles and Ruth have their lives turned upside down, when eccentric medium Madame Arcarti conjures up the ghost of Charles's first wife, who begins a spirited campaign to get her husband back!

Penelope Keith takes the role of Madame Arcarti, while the part of Ruth is played by double Olivier Award winner Joanna Riding.

Charles Condomine is played by Aden Gillett.

He appeared in Noel Coward's Design for Living in Malvern last summer and is well known for his role as Jack Maddox in three series of The House of Elliott.

Blithe Spirit runs in the Festival Theatre, Malvern, from Monday, September 6, until Saturday, September 11. Tickets are priced £6-£24.
