THANKS to the brilliant Scissor Sisters, pop music has exploded in an edgy, sexy, and tuneful commotion.

The band's songs cover a variety of colourful subject matters such as coming out of the closet.

Their creative sparks first ignited five years ago, when a then 19-year-old explosion of energy called Jake Shears was introduced to multi-instrumentalist Babydaddy.

They joined forces to write hook-studded tunes and adopted New York city as their home.

It was on the New York live circuit that the original duo teamed up with a third full-time Scissor Sister, performance artist Ana Matronic, the hostess of a decadent cabaret show in the Lower East Side.

Scissor Sisters bring together rollicking guitar riffs, throbbing synths and a whole bunch of wicked lyrics.

Their influences skitter through Bowie, Roxy Music and Elton John to Giorgio Moroder, burlesque theatre and rock opera.

Scissor Sisters made their debut live appearance in late 2001.

They've encouraged a great deal of audience interaction too, which has already included an enthusiastic 75-year-old fan at one show.

"When it's 4.30am and you've got grandma on stage partying with you, you know something works," says Jake.

The band will be playing at The Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, on Thursday, October 21.

Tickets are priced at £16.50 available on 01902 552121, or online at www.wolves civic.co.uk
