THE group held its meeting on July 28 at Wythall Village Hall.

Members and visitors were welcomed and the meeting opened with the group prayer.

President Miriam Knowles announced the sad and unexpected death of Brenda Dainty. Brenda had been a longstanding member of the Group and will be sadly missed. Her funeral was held at Beoley Church and several members attended the service.

Miriam also announced that Sheila Hill is retiring from the committee for personal reasons. Miriam thanked her for her hard work over the years and said she hoped she would continue as a member and enjoy the club for many years to come.

Thanks were extended to Pat Roach and Marguerite Jeffs for organising the trip to Tatton Park Flower Show and the June ramble. Both events were a success. Miriam also thanked those who helped at the June service. The £60 collection was sent to the Bishop of Birmingham's Centenary Appeal.

Members then voted the 2004-5 charity donations be split between Save the Children in Africa and Breast Cancer Research.

Miriam reminded members that plenty of home-made cakes were needed for the Wythall Carnival cake stall on August 14 plus helpers on the day. The Christmas meal will be held at Baddesley Clinton on Thursday, December 8 at a cost of £20. The list will open in September and names taken with a £5 deposit.

Birmingham Guide Mr Hughes then gave a very interesting talk and slide shop entitled "Sauce, Tea and Custard".

She told told how HP Sauce, Typhoo Tea and Bird's Custard came into production in Birmingham.

After questions, June Carrington gave the vote of thanks and members enjoyed tea, cakes and a chat.

The raffle was won by Jo Chandler.
