A mechanic booked a hotel room to have sex with a 13-year-old schoolgirl, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Richard Warman took along his girlfriend's contraceptive pills and ordered the teenager to take one.

The meeting at the Comfort Inn in Birmingham came during a secret ten-month relationship between the couple, said Pardeep Tiwana, prosecuting.

The first time they had sex was in a house while Warman's girlfriend was playing bingo with money he had given her for a night out.

Warman, aged 23, of Talbot Road, Bromsgrove, pleaded guilty to two sample counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Jailing him for 18 months, Judge Richard Rundell said: "You are a danger to young girls. You corrupted this vulnerable victim and took advantage of her for your own sexual gratification."

The hotel booking showed a degree of planning, he added, and unprotected sex on most occasions illustrated "highly irresponsible" behaviour.

Mr Tiwana said Warman began cheating on his girlfriend in September 2003 by asking the teenager if she wanted "to try sex just once".

"She said no at first, but he worked his charm on her and she found him good looking," said Mr Tiwana.

In April last year, while the victim was upset over bullying at school, they booked into the hotel. She confessed to a social worker a month later.

Arrested by police, Warman insisted he would never go with someone so young.

He claimed to be at a stag party the night of the hotel rendezvous. But a police handwriting expert matched his writing with a signature on the booking-in form.

Tariq Shakoor, defending, said the girl had shown considerable affection towards Warman. By pleading guilty, he had spared her giving evidence in a trial.

Mr Shakoor said Warman lacked intelligence, but told a psychiatrist he felt stupid for what he had done.

The defendant, who has two children by his girlfriend, had suffered from depression for many years, often felt suicidal and had indulged in self harm.
