BEFORE they start to reduce the number of seagulls harmlessly existing in the city, perhaps the powers-that-be might consider pruning back Worcester's yob population.

Both sides of the river north of the bridge are full of traffic cones, shopping trolleys and assorted rubbish.

Why one earth do people do this? I've always thought that Worcester was a pleasant place to live in, but I'm not so sure these days.

Back in the 1950s there was an effective campaign against littering with a slogan titled "Keep Britain Tidy". There were also stern warnings in public places advising people not to drop their rubbish or else.

I know we wax lyrically about the so-called "good old days", but surely it is not beyond the wit of modern man to call a halt to this modern plague.

Yours in sorrow rather than anger...

JIM STOTE,

Worcester.
