BROMSGROVE must be wondering when their luck will change after they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of promotion chasing Shrewsbury on Saturday.

While the rest of the fixtures in the Birmingham and District League Division One were rained off, Bromsgrove's testing trip into Shropshire survived the bad weather.

Defeat leaves the Boars perilously close to the bottom two, just one point above second from bottom Walmley.

Bromsgrove went into the game in confident news after defeating Walmley last week.

However, captain Nick Davies lost the toss and saw his out of form batting side put in by Shrewsbury.

The Boars started slowly, with Mark Evenson (1) ran out by Atonion Mullins early on.

The captain though did his best to provide his side with a solid start, before Mullins (4-41) bowled him for 22.

Richard Barnes was Mullins' next victim, out for a duck.

Jordan Rose (29) did his best to keep his side on track but Jon Anders (4-34) dismissed him.

Nick Reade also made a fight of it to reach 29, but Anders removed him.

Bromsgrove's tail end were unable to put up much resistance, with Paul Duffy (0), Julian Court (9), Kish Patel (4) and Mark Bagley (2) unable to add any significant runs as they were bowled kept to 26 overs.

Bromsgrove's opponents started strongly, with openers Ed Foster (28) and Dylan Davies (34) forging ahead.

Davies made the breakthrough when he had Foster out lbw, before Mullins Nick Husbands bowled (11).

Bromsgrove's efforts though were frustrated when Mark Davies (19 not out) kept the runs coming.

Kish Patel dismissed Anders for five, but Davies and Rob Foster (4) steered their side to victory.

l Bromsgrove will be aiming to bounce back when they take on Sutton Colfield away from home on Saturday (12.30pm start).

The Boars will be eager to get the better of their Midlands rivals, who they grabbed a winning draw off when the two sides met in St Godwalds in June.
