I WAS thrilled to have the chance to watch Tarzan 2 after being thoroughly delighted with Disney's first instalment of the original classic story.
However, don't expect (as I did) to see what happens to Tarzan and Jane - with scatty father in toe - as they begin their adult life together.
Disney throws us back into the jungle, where adventure abounds, danger is rife, and Tarzan is a chubby-cheeked youngster again.
We watch the mischievous child as he grows up with a family of monkeys, enjoying the fun and frolics but becoming increasingly aware that he is different. After one of his misadventures places the family in jeopardy, Tarzan realises the primates would be better off without him and leaves to embark upon a journey where he realises being different is not so bad, after all.
Or is it? The difference in quality from Tarzan to Tarzan 2 is immense, with the latter merely aping (excuse the pun) the first and attempting to fill in gaps that were never there. And Disney obviously hasn't learned that Phil Collins' itch-inducing input is as welcome as Elton John's contribution to The Lion King.
If the first Tarzan was "King of the Jungle", Tarzan 2 is his toilet-cleaner. Avoid.
