A Worcester church will soon see people sipping coffee and contorting themselves into yoga positions after a £100,000 revamp.

The refurbishment will enable the 12th Century St John's Church, in Bromyard Road, to host events as diverse as coffee mornings, Sunday schools and mother-and-toddler groups, while the choir vestry has already been booked as the venue for yoga classes, due to begin in the autumn.

Churchwarden Ron Cantrill said: "All the bricks and the mortar work is done. The next stage is to get some tables and chairs in. The people who have seen it, like it and can see its potential use by groups and organisations.

The six-month long renovation saw the pews at one side of the church removed and replaced with concrete paving to form a large area for social use. There is also a new heating system, a ramp and a double door for wheelchair users, a new toilet and a fully fitted kitchen.
