IN July, a group of members enjoyed an evening visit to the beautiful Collegiate Church of St Mary in the heart of Warwick.
Thanks go to Ms Anais Cooper of the parish office who arranged for the church to be specially opened and for expert guides to take the party round in small groups.
The tour included the wonderful Norman crypt, the Chapter House with its magnificent Fulke Greville tomb, all the glories of the Chancel and finally the Beauchamp Chapel, which is indeed a national treasure. Its medieval splendour is quite breathtaking.
The visit ended with refreshments thoughtfully provided and Alcester Civic Society President Mrs Pamela Norman, expressed, on behalf of everyone, great appreciation of the volunteer guides and of the warm welcome extended. A donation was made to church funds.
The next meeting is on Tuesday, September 20 at Alcester Town Hall at 8pm. Chairman Lord Hertford has invited the Hon James Stourton to talk about the Wallace Collection. Members and non-members welcome.
