A WORCESTER soldier has been named the best recruit after completing a demanding army training course.
Daren Pollock, of Green Lane, Rainbow Hill, has now joined the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters.
He said that of the 33 recruits that began the six-month training course at the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick, near Darlington, only 16 made it to the passing out parade held earlier this month.
The 25-year-old said: "The course was pretty tough. You didn't get much sleep during exercises so it was physically and mentally demanding.
"But the training staff were brilliant. They gave you confidence and got you
motivated."
Daren was presented with an engraved tanker at a ceremony in front of 500 people.
He is now on leave until Monday, August 29, when he'll head down to London for ceremonial duties at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.
Then in October he is due to go to Belize for jungle training.
