OLD Elizabethans' Birmingham Cricket League Division Two relegation fears increased when they lost a high-scoring match with Kings Heath by four wickets.

Despite a much- improved batting performance that saw OEs make 257-5, it wasn't enough to avoid defeat.

Having lost the toss and being put in, openers Simon Macey (73) and Jamie Boyle (70) compiled a first-wicket partnership of 144 before Macey was caught and bowled by Hunt.

Following the loss of three wickets for few runs, skipper Sean Cairney (33no), Richard Silk (27) and Jamie Alford (14no) took the score to 257.

Shephard (80) and Davis (49) put on 136 for the first wicket, in reply, and a further two wickets fell before Kings Heath reac-hed 180. They eventually secured victory in the last over.

n OEs Seconds maintained their promotion challenge with a fine six-wicket win against Lichfield.

After losing their first wicket for no score, and being 65-4 at one stage, Lichfield posted 203-8.

In reply, openers Chris Pearman (72) and Steve Burgoyne put on 94 for the first wicket, while Pearman and Pete Boyle added 55 for the second.

Chris Dale (24no) and Mike Payne led them home with three overs to spare.
