A COUNCILLOR is calling for residents' help in the battle against HGVs travelling illegally along a narrow road between Astwood Bank and Feckenham.

Although there is a 7.5 tonne limit along Astwood Lane, heavier lorries regularly use it as a through road.

Residents have called for police to take action to enforce the limit but village councillor, Antonia Pulsford, said it would be unworkable and require an officer to investigate the destination of each HGV as heavy lorries are permitted to deliver along the road.

Instead Mrs Pulsford is asking residents to make notes themselves of lorries' registrations, the name of the firm, its address, what date and time they saw it and call her with the information.

She then plans to trace the firm and ask whether their lorries were using the road for access or illegally as a through-road.

Mrs Pulsford said: "This is an extremely narrow, winding road which is why the weight limit has been set at 7.5 tonnes.

"Some of the HGV's may be using it correctly but it's obvious many are not.

"If I don't get a reply from the firms, or we know some of their lorries are continuing to use Astwood Lane as a through-road, there may come a time for me to pass the information to the police."

Anyone with information about HGVs and who is prepared to give their own details to Mrs Pulsford should call her on 892268.
