REDDITCH environmental action groups have agreed to meet regularly with the council's tree officers after taking part in a "tour of trees".

During the expedition last week, Redditch Tree Action Group (TAG) and Friends of the Earth discussed the town's tree, shrub and woodland management with council officers.

Campaigners previously criticised the council for uproting trees in Church Green West.

The tour also provided campaigners with information on how the councils maintains the landscape.

The council's landscape and countryside manager, Nat Healy, said the event saw a "frank and open exchange of ideas" and they agreed to work together during National Tree Week, between November 23 and December 4, and Seed Collecting Day on October 9.

The council's director of environment and planning, Sue Hanley, said: "The tour was arranged to enable us to engage with campaigners and address their specific concerns and questions."

Campaigner David Simpson praised the council for its "positive" attempt to work with action groups.
