THE thunderous roar of 300mph Top Fuel Dragsters returns to Shakespeare County Raceway for this weekend's three-day Custom Car Magazine Allstar Nationals.

Hoping to make amends for his 2-0 defeat in their match race demos at the Power Nationals in June will be Darryl Bradford piloting the Wright Racing nitro burning fuel dragster.

On Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, Bradford will face current FIA European Champion Andy Carter in the 7000 bhp B&Q Power Tools dragster. The event will also see match races between two of England's quickest and fastest supercharged Pro Modifieds.

What will Gordon Appleton's awesome six-second 1967 Chevy Camaro do against Dan Cockerill's blown-alcohol fifties styled Chevy?

In addition to the drag strip action, event sponsors Custom Car Maga-zine have laid on a display of period drag race cars from the 60s and 70s, together with an extra special display of contemporary hot rods, some of which have not seen the light of day for 20 years!

During qualifying on Saturday, the National Street Rod Association will be running flag start eighth-mile drags.

With more than 250 race entries from three UK Nationals for cars and motorcycles, jet car demos from the Firestorm team, Top Fuel Bikes, Street Eliminator and Volkswagens plus another surprise Top Fuel car from Denmark, the finals of the Ultimate Power series promises to be even hotter than last year.
