A LIMITED edition history book, created by two Bromsgrove residents about the 5,102 RAF men captured by the Japanese during World War Two, is still available.

The publication, 'Unsung Heroes of the Royal Air Force: The Far East Prisoners of War', was written by Les and Pam Stubbs, from New Road, and includes a comprehensive record of the soldiers captured.

Mr Stubbs served in the Royal Air Force and was one of many British servicemen who endured imprisonment as a Far East Prisoner of War (FEPOW).

The book was published in 2002 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of his capture in 1942 and is a dedication to all the RAF FEPOWs.

In 1984, after attending a Prisoners of War Reunion in Melbourne, Les and Pam were astonished to discover that little information was recorded about the fate of the FEPOWs and set about creating the book.

After the attack on Pearl Harbour on December 7, 1942, the Japanese war machine rapidly seized British colonies such as Burma, Hong Kong, British Borneo, Malaya, Singapore, the Gilbert Islands, the Solomon Islands, New Britain and New Ireland.

Those captured suffered from malnutrition, disease, beatings, torture, and forced labour at the hands of their captors until they were eventually released following the surrender of the Japanese Empire on August 15, 1945.

The book, which is available from Les and Pam at 143 New Road, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, B60 2LJ, is priced at £15.
