A GREEN-FINGERED Blackwell resident is celebrating after his garden scooped a top prize.

Ken Johnson, of The Glen, was the overall winner of the annual Lickey and Blackwell Parish Council gardening competition. Ken went on to win the overall prize after originally winning the best small front garden category.

"I am really happy to have won. It was a nice surprise," said Ken.

He has now been nominated to go forward to compete with winners from five other parishes which took part in this year's competition at the invitation of Wythall Parish Council.

Lickey and Blackwell parish councillor Janet King added: "The overall standard was high. We hope that this competition will encourage all those keen gardeners to continue to make their front gardens a pleasure for all passers by to view." The prizes for the top gardens in the parish will be presented at Burcot Flower Show on Sunday, September 4.
